Contents of a parent integration course

The content of the parent integration course, which comprises up to 1000 lessons, focuses on the upbringing, education and training of children. The parent integration course is designed to give immigrant mothers and fathers the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the German education system and their children’s educational institutions. This allows parents to experience the education system at first hand. This gives them the opportunity to play an active role in shaping their children’s educational path. As in the general integration course, the parent integration course also aims to acquire German language skills at level B1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Participants then attend the orientation course, which comprises 100 lessons. The orientation course is an integral part of the parent integration course and serves to impart knowledge of the legal system, culture and history in Germany. The orientation course covers the topics of politics in democracy, history and responsibility as well as people and society. The parental integration course concludes with the two scaled final tests “Deutsch-Test für Zuwanderer” (DTZ) and “Leben in Deutschland” (LiD)
